To make shopping easier, you can choose from standard picture frame sizes. These range from small postcards to large Ordnance Survey maps.
If the size you need is not available as a standard size, you have two options:
All frames are measured using internal dimensions, height, and width. So, if your artwork is 30x40cm, you need to order a 30x40cm frame. It's common to assume that the measurements relate to the outer edges.
Measuring your picture to fit directly into a frame without any mount is very straightforward:
Ordering a mount only is an option for those who already have a frame or wish to resell art without the added cost of a frame.
Our L Frame cases include various frames deep enough for most thick items. If you are not sure if the frame you like is deep enough for your product, please contact us.
If you already have a frame but need to replace it, you can do so.
For example, if your backing panel measures 300 mm x 450 mm, report the sizes as 300 mm x 450 mm.
All picture frames are designed to hold the picture and its components within the frame. As a result, the edges of your piece will be hidden from view.
Please note that when you order a picture frame, the measurements correspond to the approximate internal dimensions of the frame. Each frame overlaps by about 2-5 mm on each side of your picture. This is to prevent your picture and glass from falling out from the front.
If you wish to maximize the visible area of your picture once framed, please contact us so that we can precisely measure the rebate size of the frame you wish to order and advise accordingly.
If you order a picture mount for your piece, we will add 0.2 mm to the height and width measurements you provide. Each mount overlaps your artwork by at least 3 mm on each side. This is to prevent your artwork from falling through the mount opening and to secure it in place, preventing it from slipping down.
Note: We do not make these additions for frames designed on our website.
If you are ordering a picture frame to fit into a recess or gallery wall, you will need to consider the outer dimension of the frame. This ensures that the frame fits perfectly in the desired spot when hung.
First and foremost, only crop your picture if it is replaceable. We do not recommend cutting museum-quality artwork or sentimental photographs.
If your picture is relatively small, you can use a quality craft knife. A Stanley knife and ruler work well for artwork of any size. Ensure you keep the edges perfectly straight while cutting. We do not recommend using scissors for cutting your picture.
After measuring your piece and ordering your frame, you will need to fit your picture into it. Bend up the flexible tabs at the back of your frame, remove the board inside, and insert your picture. Close the back of your frame by bending the tabs back inwards.
