How to Clean Picture Frames
Now that you proudly display your beautiful picture frames, you’ll want them to look stunning all year round. This is the only guide you need to keep your frames clean and sparkling.

Before You Begin

We have created this simple guide to offer you the best tips for cleaning your frames to ensure your collection looks magnificent for years to come.

Your frames are crafted by skilled framers using high-quality materials. As a result, they will require minimal maintenance in the future.

When cleaning any of your frames for the first time, always test products on a small area of the frame to ensure there are no unwanted side effects that could damage or leave marks on the frame.

Cleaning each frame should not take more than 1 minute.

Cleaning the Frame Moulding

A simple way to avoid reaching for more abrasive cleaning products is to make sure your frames are included in your regular dusting routine. Keeping up with dust will reduce the effort needed to keep them looking great.

To dust your frames, use a feather duster or an anti-static cloth. If a bit of dust has accumulated, try dampening the cloth with water first. We recommend removing your frames from the wall while cleaning.

Know Your Materials

Knowing the difference between each frame is crucial when it comes to cleaning your collection; you need to respect how certain cleaning products will react with the moulding material (frame).

Wood Frames

When cleaning a wooden frame, it is best to use a damp cloth or standard furniture polish. If your frame has intricate details, you can use a toothbrush to reach smaller areas.

Our framers use a small amount of lighter fluid to remove stubborn fingerprints and marks from smooth painted surfaces.

Metal Frames

Cleaning metal frames is very easy; a damp cloth will make them look as good as new in no time. However, if there is tougher dirt, try mixing some dish soap with water to remove it.

Plastic Frames

When dealing with plastic frames, use a plastic cleaner; otherwise, a little dish soap mixed with water will do wonders.

Decorative and Intricate Frames

Despite being elegant and stylish, keeping decorative frames clean can be a bit more challenging:

  1. Ensure you are in a well-lit area to see all the details of the frame.
  2. Wipe the dust and dirt with a clean, soft microfiber cloth.
  3. Gently brush the dirt in the moulding cracks using a dry toothbrush.
  4. Wipe off the loosened dirt with the cloth.
  5. If dirt remains, take a cotton swab and apply it to the hard-to-reach areas. Try dampening the cotton swab to help remove the dirt and dust.
